World Cup fever came to Kirkby on Saturday 18 July as the town centre hosted a special world-cup themed celebration thanks to the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board.
The Board – which is overseeing an investment of £19.5 million (as part of the Government’s Pride in Place funding) in the town over the next ten years – pledged £60,000 to support town centre events and they are kicking off celebrations in style to coincide with the World Cup Final.
Throughout the day, there was a host of free activities and entertainment including freestyle footballers, workshops, performances, rodeo football, footpool and much more.
Max Steinberg CBE DL, Chair of the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board said: “This World Cup-themed event was the first in a series of exciting and engaging events being delivered in Kirkby town centre over the summer.
“We know that local people want a vibrant town centre and things to do and our events plan is one of the ways we are delivering this.
“Over the coming weeks, we are ensuring there is something for everyone. We have a circus spectacular, a carnival and a tribute takeover – to name just a few.
“Thank you to everyone to came along and supported the first event on Saturday and hopefully we’ll see you return again for the rest of the programme.”
