Kirkby Neighbourhood Board offers grants to local community groups

by Jonathan Kearney

Community groups and organisations in Kirkby can NOW apply for a share of more than £132,000 grant funding to support their work in the town, thanks to the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board.

The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board Community Fund, which will allocate capital grants of up to £25,000 and revenue grants of up to £2,500 to Kirkby organisations delivering projects and initiatives that directly contribute to the key priorities of the Board – identified through community consultation. They are:

  • A vibrant town centre
  • Safe, stronger neighbourhoods
  • Empowering people to succeed

The Neighbourhood Board is particularly keen to support projects aimed at improving community buildings and spaces, encouraging better use and access of community assets, creation of safe, inclusive and flexible spaces to support local community activity, preventative work to reduce and anti-social behaviour, providing safe space for young people, supporting residents into training or work and activities to support wellbeing and confidence in young people.

Max Steinberg CBE DL, Chair of the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board commented: “We know that there are already so many local organisations and groups providing fantastic support to the local community here in Kirkby. We also know that funding to support initiatives can be hard to come by and organisations can struggle to maintain or improve their offer – no matter how great the difference they are making.

“This Community Fund aims to provide some much-needed support with an additional financial boost to organisations who share our aim of improving life for all Kirkby residents. Whether it’s expanding a current offer, improving facilities or something completely new, we are keen to hear from as many organisations as possible.

“The application process closes on 7 August at 5pm, a panel will then evaluate the applications with grants awarded the 1 October  – This means successful projects could access additional funding within the year – which is great news for the Kirkby community.”

The fund is open to organisations located within the boundary of Kirkby and is split into two separate pots:

Revenue funding – Grants of up to a maximum of £2,500.00 can be awarded.

Revenue funding can be used to cover the day-to -day costs of running an organisation or service. It can cover things like staff payments, rent, supplies and training.

Capital funding – Grants of up to a maximum of £25,000.00 can be awarded.

Capital funding could pay for building work, buying vehicles or equipment or paying for renovations to existing facilities.

Organisations can apply for both pots of funding – subject to fulfilling the criteria. All the details including who can apply, how to apply and details of what can and can’t be funded can be found here.
