Sole Occupancy Discount Amnesty update

by Jonathan Kearney

Knowsley Council is now moving into the second phase of its Sole Occupancy Discount Amnesty review.

If you currently receive a 25% Sole Occupancy Discount and did not respond by 5 July deadline or the council was unable to verify your discount, you may shortly receive a letter.

The letter is your opportunity to cancel your discount if you are no longer eligible or confirm that you are still entitled to receive the discount.

It provides three ways to respond:

  1. Online – using the link and details provided in your letter.
  2. Telephone 0151 386 0201 – call our dedicated Sole Occupancy Discount Amnesty helpline.
  3. By post – Complete and return the declaration form included with the letter.

Single Occupancy Discount Amnesty helpline

If you choose to respond by telephone, please call 0151 386 0201. Our dedicated team is available to help you more efficiently. Please only contact this number if you receive a letter.

The number is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

When you call, the operator will ask you for the account number shown on your letter. They will then guide you through the required questions and complete your personal declaration on your behalf during the call, making the process quick and straightforward.

Why it is important to respond

You must respond to the letter if you wish to continue receiving your Single Occupancy Discount. Failure to respond may result in your discount being removed from your Council Tax account and the correct charge backdated.
