Supporting National Inclusion Week

by Jonathan Kearney

As an inclusive employer, Knowsley Council is supporting National Inclusion Week which takes place from 14 to 20 September 2026.

National Inclusion Week serves as a platform for discussion, generating ideas, or launching new initiatives.

This year’s theme is ‘Build Trust. Navigate Change’, emphasising that progress requires honest communication, accountability, and ongoing practical action during times of uncertainty.

Knowsley Council aims to deliver the best support and services to residents and businesses across the borough and the council knows that its communities are diverse and also recognises that its workforce should be too.

That’s why the council actively encourages applications for all vacancies from people with diverse backgrounds.

People bring different experiences, perspectives and have something unique to offer. By working together, our workforce can better understand the needs of our residents and ensure that we deliver the very best services which are aligned to their needs.

Within the council, there are a number of employee networks – set up by employees for employees to discuss issues and influence policy as well as supporting inclusion and a sense of belonging. The current networks are:-

  • AdaptABLE Disability Network
  • Carers’ Forum (for employees with caring responsibilities)
  • Changies – Men’s Mental Health Group
  • The LGBTQ+ Forum
  • Multi-Faith and Belief Group
  • Neurodiversity Network
  • United in Diversity Network
  • Women’s Operational Workers’ Network
  • Youth Employment Network

The council is level 2 Disability Confident accredited, committed to the Declaration of Intent for Race Equality and achieved the Navajo Charter Mark status.

The council has also been awarded Accredited status for the Liverpool City Region Fair Employment Charter, demonstrating that it is a healthy workplace, fair, inclusive and just.

Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, said “At Knowsley Council, our workplace is one where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to do their best work.

“It’s really important that our workforce is aligned to our local communities and that we have the best people providing the very best services in those communities.

“Our people are our most important asset and we actively promote and support the establishment of our employee networks – set up by employees for employees – providing safe spaces for discussion as well as opportunities to inform how we work.

“It’s important that our workforce is able to work for a healthy, fair, inclusive and just employer and I’m delighted to be once again supporting National Inclusion Week.”
