Work is progressing at pace on transforming a prime site in Huyton Village Centre into a new community facility, called Huyton Hive.
CGI images have been created to show residents, visitors and businesses how this new building will transform the high street. Natural light will flood into the building, which will also benefit from a contemporary external makeover.

Located on Cavendish Walk (in the former B&M unit) this empty unit will be transformed into a new library on the ground floor, with Knowsley Works (providing employment and training support to local residents) moving into the first floor, along with temporary office space being created.
The new library will include exciting spaces for children of all ages, and adults alike, as well as the usual support and services from your local library including a vast array of books, support to get you online, access to PCs, photocopying and printing. There will also be a drop-off / pick-up point to the rear of the building.
Existing activities and groups will also move into this new space.
The temporary office space, along with the current Huyton Library building, will support the Council’s relocation as part of the wider redevelopment of the existing Council headquarters site which will deliver new homes and public spaces.
A future phase of development also includes the provision of community spaces within the building, aligned to the local community’s needs.
Work is progressing at the site with hoardings installed, displaying messages which highlight how the building will be used, and internal works have commenced.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said “I’m delighted to see work on this site has commenced which will transform this key building in the heart of the Village Centre into a real hive of activity.
“We have ensured that the facilities that are needed and used by the local community are prioritised.
“By relocating the library into the high street, it will make it even more accessible for users of all ages and increase footfall for local businesses.”
Cllr Jayne Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Resources, said “It’s great to see work progressing on Huyton Hive. By having the library in the town centre, it will help to maintain valued library services, provide an established and increasing community offer, while supporting wider regeneration plans. I’d also encourage everyone to help to inform the internal space by sharing their views in our library consultation.”
There’s still time for you to have your say and help to inform the internal space at the new Huyton Library. You can pick up a postcard in Huyton Library (located on Civic Way) or complete an online form here. The closing date is 5pm on Monday 14 September 2026.
The works are being funded via Homes England’s Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land fund and Huyton Hive is due to be completed and opened in Spring 2027.
