Knowsley is benefiting from an increased town centre police presence this summer as part of a national initiative.
The Safer Streets Summer Initiative is being led by Police forces and Police and Crime Commissioners across the country, with £66m in Home Office Hotspot policing funding being allocated.
Huyton Village Centre, Kirkby Town Centre and Prescot Town Centre have benefited from a more visible policing presence this summer, helping to tackle issues such as anti-social behaviour and retail crime.
This includes more high visibility patrols and deployments, a focus on ASB hotspots and the introduction of preventative measures such as dispersal orders where necessary.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “Knowsley Council is working with Merseyside Police and other partners to help make our town centres safer. For Council teams this includes community walkabouts, 24/7 monitoring of our extensive CCTV network, licensing compliance checks and, where necessary, civil enforcement action being taken.”
CCTV
Knowsley’s CCTV network of more than 1,150 cameras is monitored 24/7. The Council Control room has direct access to Merseyside Police’s Command and Control Room, which means the police can be immediately notified of any incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour occurring and police patrols can be deployed accordingly.
