Pass rates rise as Knowsley students collect GCSE results

by Guy Murphy

The class of 2026 have been collecting their GCSE and other exam results in schools across Knowsley this morning.

Overall, the borough’s pupils look to have maintained the increases made last year, with provisional results showing a slight increase in the percentage of students gaining Grade 4 or above in both English and Maths once again.

St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Academy in Whiston is celebrating the most significant increase in results in the borough, with the number of pupils gaining both English and Maths passes at Grade 4 and above rising by 10%, and the number gaining passes in both English and Maths at Grade 5 or above up by more than 20%. This notable increase is in part due to a surge in the school’s results in maths, with a 22% increase in the number of students getting a strong pass of Grade 5 or higher.

And overall the highest achieving school in Knowsley was All Saints Catholic High School in Knowsley, where 57% of pupils are celebrating gaining Grade 4 or above in both English and Maths this year.

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People in Knowsley, said: “Huge congratulations to every young person in Knowsley collecting their exam results today.

“Getting your results is a big milestone, and it’s fantastic that year on year we’re seeing attainment rates rise. A lot of intense work has gone on in schools to support pupils and that’s paying off, as today’s results show.

“As a council we will continue to work with schools to keep raising those standards so that Knowsley pupils can achieve to the best of their ability.

“To all those young people out there thinking about next steps – whether your results were better than you expected or not, there are so many opportunities for you. Take a look at all the advice which is out there, speak to your teachers and colleges and you’ll find the right path for you.”
