An initiative funded by Knowsley Council and Stronger Communities, delivered by We’ll Care Liverpool CIC in partnership with Knowsley Council’s Early Years Service, called Bake Away Plus, has been piloted at New Hutte Children & Family Hub in Halewood.
Due to the success, the initiative is being extended over the summer holidays.
The two partners have been working together to extend the provision of ‘Bake Away’ and reach to families with young children residing in Halewood.
The free offer includes recipe cards and complete ingredients for families to bake at home.
The resources were distributed to families at the Early Years’ “Story and Rhyme Time” sessions.
The initiative has been overwhelmingly positive with feedback including:-
“We’ve loved the food boxes. It was good fun making them together and teaching the children more about cooking.”
“Bake away box was fab – all measured out and easy to make. Lovely activity for me and my little girl & also delicious to eat!”
“Good portions of ingredients and good guide and instructions”
“I love the baking boxes – my baby is only 4 months old but make them with her in the kitchen and look forward to making them when she’s bigger.”
“I love making the boxes especially with my older kids! They get so excited when they see the white box. It’s such a lovely bonding time – Thank you”
“We have really enjoyed the bakery boxes and would love to see them more often, it is great to go home and continue learning from the session with the children. It’s great that the ingredients are all measured out and it makes it so easy to do at home.”
On the back of the success, We’ll Care Liverpool CIC will be extending the Bake Away Plus offer over the school summer holidays and through to October 2026.

Not only are we supporting with a food offer and ideas of how to use ingredients, but based on the feedback we’ve received, it really is an activity families can enjoy together.”

It’s an amazing project which covers a wide range of skills from reading and rhyme through to teamwork and culinary skills for the benefit of the whole family. Well done to Brian and his team for bringing this great initiative to Halewood and for their commitment, passion and support they provide to our children and families.”
