Teams from Knowsley Council and its partners will be out and about in Prescot South on Wednesday, 10 September, tackling a range of environmental issues, from littering and graffiti to fly tipping and dog fouling.
It’s one of a series of Environmental Action Days being held across the borough, bringing partner agencies together to spend a day focusing on the most pressing issues in a specific location.
What’s happening on the day?
Activities on the day will include:
- clearing litter and fly tipping in hotspot areas
- removal of waste and abandoned bins
- cleansing and grounds maintenance inspections
- sewer baiting to control the rat population in the area. (Here’s some advice about controlling rats and keeping them away from homes, businesses and gardens.)
There will also be food hygiene inspections and council officers will speak to businesses and residents who are failing to manage their waste, taking enforcement action where appropriate.
Council officers and partners will be out and about in the area offering advice and information to residents, including:
- Representatives from Livv Housing identifying areas with waste storage / fly tipping issues and signposting to financial, community safety and health and wellbeing advice.
- Change, Grow, Live will be offering free, confidential support around addiction, mental health, housing, criminal justice, family issues, and more.
- Knowsley Council dog warden will be patrolling hot spot dog fouling areas.
Children from St Marys & St Paul’s CE Primary School will also be carrying out a litter pick in the area.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Our programme of action days have been a great success and shown how we can come together with partners to make a real impact in areas across the borough. This initiative is an opportunity to take targeted action and tackle specific environmental issues in a ward, encourage behaviour change and enable communities to participate in looking after where they live and work.”
Council teams involved in the action days include Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing, Streetscene, Pest Control, Waste and Recycling, Safer Communities, as well as partners including Merseyside Police and social housing providers.
