As an inclusive employer, Knowsley Council is supporting National Inclusion Week which takes place from 15 to 21 September 2025.
Throughout the week, the council will be celebrating inclusion as well as continuing to build an inclusive workplace.
National Inclusion Week serves as a platform for discussion, generating ideas, or launching new initiatives.
This year’s theme is ‘Now is the time’, emphasising the importance of inclusion, urgency, resilience, and the need to push forward – focusing on practical steps that make inclusion sustainable and embedded within our organisations.
Knowsley Council aims to deliver the best support and services to residents and businesses across the borough and the council knows that its communities are diverse and also recognises that its workforce should be too.
That’s why the council actively encourages applications for all vacancies from people with diverse backgrounds.
People bring different experiences, perspectives and have something unique to offer. By working together, our workforce can better understand the needs of our residents and ensure that we deliver the very best services which are aligned to their needs.
Within the council, there are a number of employee networks – set up by employees for employees to discuss issues and influence policy as well as supporting inclusion and a sense of belonging. The current networks are:-
- The Disability Workers’ Network
- Carers’ Forum (for employees with caring responsibilities)
- Changies – Men’s Mental Health Group
- The LGBTQ+ Forum
- Multi-Faith and Belief Group
- Neurodiversity Support Network
- United in Diversity Network
- Women’s Operational Workers’ Network
- Youth Employment Network

Cllr Jayne Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Resources, said “At Knowsley Council, our workplace is one where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to do their best work.
“It’s really important that our workforce is aligned to our local communities and that we have the best people providing the very best services in those communities.
“Our people are our most important asset and we actively promote and support the establishment of our employee networks – set up by employees for employees – providing safe spaces for discussion as well as opportunities to inform how we work.
“It’s important that our workforce is able to work for a healthy, fair, inclusive and just employer and I’m delighted to be once again supporting National Inclusion Week.”
