There’s lots of opportunities available to young people in Knowsley as they start to think about their next steps when they leave school.
This includes progressing to study A Levels, BTECs or T Levels as well as apprenticeships where you get the opportunity to learn and earn at the same time.
Securing an apprenticeship was what Joseph Clarke did and he’s now an Apprentice Plumber at Livv Housing Group.
Joseph has just started his second year with Livv Housing Group and he said: “When I was at school, the expectation of most students was to apply and go to University. That never appealed to me. I always liked the idea of an Apprenticeship – a way I could gain skills and qualifications whilst being hands on and earning at the same time.
“I like that I’m gaining work experience in the field I’m pursuing, whilst getting my qualifications. One day a week I attend college to learn the theory behind the trade, which I can apply on site. It’s a nice balance.
“Another thing I like most about my apprenticeship is that I am meeting and working with many people who have decades of experience in various trades. Each person has a different way of working. This means when tackling a problem, where some methods won’t work in some situations, I am always armed with alternative solutions.
“I would 100% recommend an Apprenticeship to anyone who is leaving school, who is looking to gain various life skills and qualifications, whilst getting a taste of working in a chosen industry. There is an abundance of Apprenticeships which come out each year, with something for everyone.
“I believe they are the best choice post education.
“My aim is to become a fully qualified Plumbing and Heating Engineer and my apprenticeship at Livv Housing Group has provided me with the invaluable stepping stone to pursuing my long-term career.”
