Teams from Knowsley Council and its partners will be out and about in Page Moss on Wednesday, 18 February, tackling a range of environmental issues, from littering and graffiti to fly tipping and dog fouling.
It’s one of a series of Environmental Action Days being held across the borough, bringing partner agencies together to spend a day focusing on the most pressing issues in a specific location.
What’s happening on the day?
Activities on the day will include:
- clearing litter and fly tipping in hotspot areas
- removal of waste and abandoned bins
- cleansing and grounds maintenance inspections
- sewer baiting to control the rat population in the area. (Here’s some advice about controlling rats and keeping them away from homes, businesses and gardens.)
Council officers will carry out food hygiene inspections and speak to businesses and residents who are failing to manage their waste, taking enforcement action where appropriate.
Jubilee Park car park will be the base for a number of organisations offering advice and support from 9.30am. These include:
- Responsible Dog owners Event: From 10am to 2pm Knowsley’s Dog Warden will be offering free microchipping, a ‘chip and check’ service as well as dog behavioural training advice.
- Food Waste Collections Roadshow, 10am to 1pm – staged by Knowsley Council’s Recycling Engagement Team who will be offering advice about the new service which starts in April.
- Social Housing provider Livv Housing will be on hand addressing concerns from residents.
- Change Grow Live will be offering free, confidential support across multiple life areas: addiction, mental health, housing, criminal justice, family issues, and more.
- Local walkabout by Knowsley’s Crime and Communities team.
Later in the week, on Friday 20 February, Knowsley’s Green Space Rangers will be holding a free, ‘make your own bird feeder’ event between 12pm and 2pm at Jubilee Park. Find out more.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Our programme of action days have been a great success and shown how we can come together with partners to make a real impact in areas across the borough. This initiative is an opportunity to take targeted action and tackle specific environmental issues in a ward, encourage behaviour change and enable communities to participate in looking after where they live and work.”
Council teams involved in the action days will include Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing, Streetscene, Pest Control, Waste and Recycling, Safer Communities, as well as partners including Merseyside Police and social housing providers.
