Self service kiosk helps you take control of your health

by Cathy Sheel

Why not take 10 minutes out of your day for a mini health check and take control of your health? A self-service health kiosk is now available at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park in Huyton until the middle of August.

The kiosk is free, quick and easy to use. It will check your blood pressure, heart rate, and measure your height and weight to calculate your body mass index (BMI), as well as giving you an indication of your general health in around 10 minutes.

No booking is required and results are available immediately. You don’t have to be a leisure centre member to access this, just mention to reception that you’d like to use the kiosk.

Your blood pressure is measured by sliding your arm into a blood pressure cuff on the machine, and weight is measured while standing on the foot plate scale. There’s also a seat for those with restricted mobility.

The kiosk asks users several questions about their health and wellbeing before providing the personalised, confidential information about what to do next. It also estimates a person’s risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years, as well as their heart age. And can also signpost you to support for your mental health.

The results, along with appropriate advice and guidance, are produced instantly and displayed on screen, and can also be emailed to you.

The health kiosk is provided by Knowsley Council in partnership with Volair Leisure and SISU Health UK.

Cllr Jayne Lonergan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Resources said: “Using this health kiosk is a really quick and convenient way to check your general health and it could help you spot issues like high blood pressure which may, if left untreated, lead to more serious health risks.”
