Towerhill Community Hub has celebrated the completion of extensive renovation works which have transformed the popular community venue.
Towerhill Community Hub in Kirkby – formerly Towerhill Amateur Boxing Club – held an event to mark the completion of a year-long improvement programme. Knowsley Mayor, Cllr Ken McGlashan and Mayoress Anne McGlashan joined the celebrations, officially unveiling the new-look venue.
The facilities at Towerhill Community Hub now include:
- Meeting and training room, modern, flexible spaces perfect for workshops, courses, or community gatherings
- Large offices with Wi-Fi
- State-of-the-art gym
- Wellbeing hub – a welcoming space dedicated to supporting mental and physical health
- Sauna and cold-water therapy bath
- Brand new, well equipped catering kitchen
- Off road, secure parking
Carl Melia from Towerhill Community Hub said: “We are delighted with the improvements which have transformed our centre and mean that even more young people, as well as the wider community, will be able to get involved with the activities and services we’re able to offer at the hub. We hope our enhanced offer will help reduce anti-social behaviour and improve inclusion and employability among local young people.”
In 2024, Knowsley Council and One Knowsley secured £1.6m from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund to deliver a major transformation which included an extension and refurbishment of the existing facilities to support an increased youth offer.
In recent years, Towerhill Community Hub has taken over the running of the site as part of a Community Asset Transfer from Knowsley Council. The venue has also secured funding from the Football Foundation Playzone Fund to deliver a multi-use games area at the site.
The Youth Investment Fund (YIF) was set up by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, to create, expand and improve local youth facilities and their services, in order to drive positive outcomes for young people, including improved mental and physical wellbeing, and skills for life and work.
