Teams from Knowsley Council and its partners will be out and about in the Swanside area of Huyton on Thursday, 16 October tackling a range of environmental issues, from littering and graffiti to fly tipping and dog fouling.
It’s one of a series of Environmental Action Days being held across the borough, bringing partner agencies together to spend a day focusing on the most pressing issues in a specific location.
What’s happening on the day?
Activities on the day will include:
- clearing litter and fly tipping in hotspot areas
- removal of waste and abandoned bins
- cleansing and grounds maintenance inspections
- sewer baiting to control the rat population in the area. (Here’s some advice about controlling ratsand keeping them away from homes, businesses and gardens.)
Officers will speak to businesses and residents who are failing to manage their waste, taking enforcement action where appropriate. Crime and Communities officers will be delivering letters advising residents how they can report anti-social behaviour.
Swanside Community Centre, Willoughby Road, Huyton will be the base for services offering advice and support from 9am to 11am. These include:
- Change, Grow, Live – offering free, confidential support across multiple life areas: addiction, mental health, housing, criminal justice, family issues, and more. Services combine practical and clinical approaches with peer-led recovery to help individuals reshape their lives.
- Knowsley’s Recycling Engagement Team will be offering recycling advice and facilities for the recycling of vapes, batteries, textiles and small electricals.
Schoolchildren from Malvern Primary and St Margaret Mary’s Catholic Infants and Juniors will be holding litter picks to support the local clean up. Conservation volunteers will also be holding a litter pick at Roby Fields.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Our programme of action days have been a great success and shown how we can come together with partners to make a real impact in areas across the borough. This initiative is an opportunity to take targeted action and tackle specific environmental issues in a ward, encourage behaviour change and enable communities to participate in looking after where they live and work.”
Council teams involved in the action days will include Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing, Streetscene, Pest Control, Waste and Recycling, Safer Communities, as well as partners including Livv Housing.
