This World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August), Cllr Christine Bannon, Cabinet Member for Health, visited the George Howard Centre in Whiston to show her support for local breastfeeding families.
During the visit, Cllr Bannon met parents attending a Breastfeeding Coffee and Catch-Up session delivered by the Everyone Health Breastfeeding Peer Support Service, and saw first-hand the nursing room and family-friendly facilities available at the centre.
The event was held alongside a Play on a Shoestring session to celebrate National Play Day, bringing families together to access support, connect with others, and discover fun, low-cost ways to support their child’s development through play.
These free, friendly drop-in breastfeeding support sessions are held across Knowsley Family Hubs and Children’s Centres, providing advice, encouragement and peer support for families on their infant feeding journey.
Cllr Christine Bannon, Cabinet Member for Health, said: “It was great to be out and about today, meeting with families and services that support our Breastfeeding Friendly campaign.
“We’re proud of the progress we are making to create a breastfeeding-friendly borough where parents feel confident, supported and welcomed.”
