To mark World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 Auguts), Knowsley Council has launched a new series of short films highlighting the breastfeeding support available to families across the borough.
The films are part of Knowsley’s Breastfeeding Friendly campaign and aim to help make breastfeeding more normal, build confidence among new parents and parents to-be, and encourage conversations about the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby.
The campaign also reminds partners, families and friends of the important role they play in supporting breastfeeding parents. Creating a positive and supportive environment can make a huge difference to a family’s breastfeeding journey and help parents to feel comfortable feeding their baby wherever they choose.

Benefits of Breastfeeding
Research shows that breastfeeding provides significant health benefits for children and mothers. Breast milk supplies all the nutrients a baby needs in the first six months of life, while breastfeeding has been linked to reduced risks of obesity, asthma and allergies in children. For mothers, breastfeeding can support wellbeing and can help reduce the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
This campaign builds on the progress made across Knowsley in recent years to create a more breastfeeding-friendly culture. A range of initiatives including the Breastfeeding Friendly Pledge, an enhanced Infant Feeding Team, Breastfeeding Buddy support programmes, and a breast pump loan scheme have been introduced.
These efforts are helping to make a difference. Recent data shows that the number of babies being breastfed at 6-8 weeks in Knowsley has increased from 33.1% in 2024/25 to 37.6% in 2025/26, continuing an upward trend across the borough.
Support when you need it
Knowsley families can access a range of breastfeeding support services before and after their baby is born, including specialist support from the Infant Feeding Team, Health Visiting Services and the Breastfeeding Buddy Programme, which offers both face-to-face and virtual support.
