Scrutiny Committee backs development of Knowsley’s New Health and Wellbeing Strategy

by Laura Johnston

The Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee has backed the work in progress to develop Knowsley’s new Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Initial development, stakeholder engagement, data collection and review is currently underway to develop Knowsley’s new Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy for 2026–2031.

The new strategy will replace the current 2020–2025 plan, which focused on reducing health inequalities and improving mental health.

The refreshed strategy will align with major national and local changes, including Knowsley 2030, the Knowsley Council Plan, Integrated Care Board developments, and planned reforms to the NHS and neighbourhood health planning.

To drive long-term change, the Health and Wellbeing Board has agreed that the new strategy will have a single overarching aim: to reduce health inequalities, guided by the Cheshire and Merseyside All Together Fairer principles.

The Board will select two priority principles each year to focus on in depth, supported by annual action plans and a clear performance framework with quarterly reviews.

For the first year, the Board has chosen:

  • Supporting all children, young people and adults to maximise their capabilities and have control over their lives – with a particular focus on children and young people’s mental health.
  • Tackling racism, discrimination and their outcomes.

A new annual cycle of planning, delivery and reflection will ensure the strategy remains focused and responsive.

The Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee gave their backing to the proposed approach at their meeting on 10 March 2026.
