As part of Falls Prevention Week (21 to 25 September), Cllr Christine Bannon, Cabinet Member for Health attended a ‘Safe and Steady’ fall event at Bowring Park today.
The Safe and Steady event was delivered by Everton in the Community (EiTC) and an Everton FC Ambassador, along with Cllr Bannon, enjoyed a memorable afternoon of live music, afternoon tea and holistic therapy sessions whilst hearing inspiring success stories from participants on the programme.
Funded by Knowsley Council, EitC’s Safe and Steady Postural Stability Exercise programme delivers a series of low-intensity physical activity sessions for elderly residents across Knowsley who have experience of falls or are at risk of falls.
The programme also provides participants with a tailored support package which includes pre and post activity assessments, access to the charity’s in-house GP and Dietician, a functional fitness MOT and signposting to EitC’s 60+ programmes.
Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Health, said “I was delighted to spend the afternoon hearing about the impact participating in the Safe and Steady Falls Prevention programme has had on our residents.
“We commissioned this programme through Everton in the Community to support our residents to continue to live independently and help to reduce falls-related hospital admissions and prevent trips to the local A&E department.
“It was great to hear how the programme is supporting residents to live in their own homes longer and lead a better quality of life.”
