Pop-up measles vaccination clinics announced – give your child the best protection

by Guy Murphy

The NHS, Mersey Care and Knowsley Council have organised pop-up, open access MMR vaccination clinics to help get as many children protected as possible following an increase in measles cases in England.

No appointment is needed. Parents just need to turn up with their child to get their vaccination.

Measles is highly contagious amongst those who are unvaccinated, and it is particularly easy to catch in environments when in close contact with others, such as schools and nurseries.

Parents are being urged to check the vaccination status of their children due to growing number of measles cases. This can be done via the child’s red book or by contacting their GP if they are unsure.

A child needs 2 doses MMR vaccinations to be fully protected. If you have any questions regarding vaccination, contact your GP, Practice Nurse, or Health Professional. You are also welcome to speak to a professional at one of the open access sessions being provided.

Symptoms of Measles include a high fever, sore, red watery eyes, and a blotchy red-brown rash.

If you think you or your child have Measles, do not visit a health-care setting – call your GP surgery or NHS 111 first. They will advise on next steps. Avoid turning up at a healthcare setting without letting them know that you have a suspected measles case to help stop the virus spreading.
