Packed Prescot for Elizabethan Fayre

by Lisa Bennett

Prescot town centre was packed last weekend (Saturday 8 June) for the annual Elizabethan Fayre celebrations.

Thousands of people enjoyed the traditional event which celebrates the towns remarkable history and Elizabethan heritage.

Visitors were treated to live Shakespeare theatre performances, traditional Morris dancing and musical pieces, while giant fluffy bees entertained shoppers and families with their silly antics.

The crowds were wowed with spectacular fire dancing shows, enthralled with Tudor tales and got creative with traditional candle making and shadow puppet performances.

Eccleston Street came to life with the bright and colourful Jester Parade by Imaginarium Theatre and the local community, as they walked through the town with handmade costumes and props and a giant Shakespeare puppet!

The Elizabethan Fayre, which is organised by the Culture Knowsley Team, is becoming more popular each year and this year attracted over 10,000 visitors to Prescot town centre.

The celebrations this year were even more significant as Knowsley the borough and the council both turned 50.

Guests, local businesses, performers and stall holders have all commented on how successful the day was for the town:
