Olympian Adam Peaty hosts inspirational race clinic at Volair Huyton

by Emily Maguire

On Thursday 10 August, a very special swimming event came to Volair in Huyton. Triple Olympic Champion swimmer, Adam Peaty brought his AP Race Clinic tour to the leisure centre as one of only five venues hosting the clinics across the UK this summer.

Young swimmers, their parents, and coaches had the opportunity to come and meet the man behind the medals, enjoying a world class experience with Adam and his team for a whole day.

Throughout the day, swimmers and their families had specialist coaching which consisted of a number of different ‘stations’; firstly, a swim station made up of two groups; a breaststroke technique station led by Adam himself and a breaststroke pull out station lead by Youth Commonwealth Champion British Champion & Record Holder Ed Baxter.

The second station was lead by Adam’s gym coach, Rob Norman. This land station focused on body weight exercises and improving swimming specific pathways.

The final station was the “Racing Edge Station” which focussed on the mental side of racing and how the elite swimmers get the winning edge.

For the parents, there was a special parent’s support station where insights were shared from the teams’ combined experiences as well as a chance for any swimming related topics to be explored and discussed.

The team also offered coaches of clubs local to the clinics the chance to come in for the entire day for free and receive mentoring from one of the leading senior coaches in the UK.

To round off the day for everyone, Adam gave a presentation on his journey through swimming, the lessons he has learnt, how he has managed to retain unparalleled levels of success for so long and all about his pursuit of becoming ‘Better Than Yesterday’.

Cllr Graham Morgan, the Leader of Knowsley Council said: “How fantastic that Adam brought his prestigious race clinic to Knowsley. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young competitive swimmers from across the Liverpool City Region to learn from the best and increase their chances of being the swimming stars of the future.

“And it’s testament to the fantastic facilities that we have here in Knowsley that an event of this calibre can be hosted here.”
