There’s more summer fun in store for families visiting Bowring Park with the completion of the new junior play area.
Knowsley Council Leader Cllr Graham Morgan and Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods Cllr Shelley Powell joined representatives of the ‘Friends’ of Bowring Park and Oneday to officially unveil the new-look play area at the park.
The new scheme is the latest development to transform play facilities at the park, following the creation of a toddler play space earlier this year. The new play areas include a mixture of inclusive play pieces, including a basket swing, an accessible swing chair, inclusive “2up2down” Multiplay unit, and an inclusive round about.
They have been delivered as part of Knowsley Council’s borough-wide £350,000 play renewal project, with additional funding sourced from Virador credits and Section 106 contributions.
In the coming months other play areas across the borough will benefit from upgrades to equipment and surfacing including:
o new junior play pieces, upgraded surfacing, and a new trim trail at The Pasture, Cronton
o new play pieces and surfacing at Webster Park, Memorial Park and Field Lane Park
o new multigym, play pieces and path works at the Hollies, Halewood
o new toddler play area at Stockbridge Village – part funded by Veolia Environment Trust.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “We’re delighted to be working with partners and volunteers to create these new play areas at Bowring Park, which are a great addition to the fabulous renovation works which have already happened at the park. The installation of these new, inclusive play areas in parks across Knowsley will be popular attractions for local families – and yet another reason to visit our great, green spaces.”
Matt Bell, Director of Oneday said: “It’s great to see yet another step forward in our transformation of Bowring Park and Golf Course. We are so pleased that Bowring Park not only continues to provide a great golf experience but also offers more and more for everyone of all ages, to enjoy from the beautiful park grounds, the Coach House for food and drink, and now the new children’s play area. There really is something for everyone.”
