In order to support residents who are ‘shopping local’ for their essential food and medicine supplies, the council has stopped all car parking charges in all of Knowsley town centres with immediate effect.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “In line with Government regulations we are rightly seeing a much reduced number of people in our town centres.
“However, we also know that many local people who need to shop for essential supplies such as food and medicines are keen to avoid the big supermarkets and want to shop local with smaller traders in our town centres.
“Whilst many of the stalls on Kirkby Market are now closed, in line with Government guidelines, there are still a few stalls open selling fresh produce, meats, household cleaning items and pet food.
“We want people to be able to access these outlets quickly and safely, which is why we’re making all parking free in town centres for the duration of this crisis.”
