New skills for the new year at Kirkby Gallery

by Emily Maguire

There are a host of exciting new courses coming to Kirkby Gallery in January, offering the opportunity to learn new skills or improve upon existing ones.

See, Sew, Save

A free 10-week sewing course takes place on Tuesday mornings, beginning on Tuesday 23 January. Supported by Knowsley Council’s Winter Wellness Grant, the course is open to adults with the aim of improving mental health and wellbeing through sewing and skills development.

Learn a selection of stitches and hand sewing techniques to transform garments, repair and repurpose old favourites.

Bring along some pieces of clothing you would like to mend or embellish, and any treasured scraps, buttons or trimmings you have kept for a rainy day. You’ll be provided with needles and thread, as well as refreshments and hot soup for lunch.

Learn to paint in oils with Harry Garner

Starting on Friday 26 January, Artist Harry Garner will teach you how to paint in oils in this new course of two-hour sessions at Kirkby Gallery.

The five-week course costs just £100, with all materials and equipment included. Places are limited to ensure a quality learning experience. Beginners are welcome.

Sessions take place on Fridays between 10.30am-12.30pm at Kirkby Gallery and run from 26 January – 23 February 2024
