Halewood junior parkrun celebrated their first birthday on Sunday with running, smiles and cakes! Dozens of runners completed the 2km course, with 14 achieving personal best times. Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, was in attendance to start the event and cheer the runners home.
Taking place every Sunday morning at 9am from Halewood Environment Centre, Halewood junior parkrun is a free, fun and friendly event open to any 4-14 year olds. Since their first event in February 2025 over 400 different young people have taken part, with 1,713 finishers completing the 2km course. Halewood junior parkrun is made possible by volunteers, and in their first year 112 hi-vis heroes have been there bright and early to applaud every runner and walker.
Junior parkrun coming to Kirkby
A new junior parkrun will launch at Millbrook Millenium Green in Kirkby in the spring. In addition, Knowsley parkrun, which takes place over a 5km course in Stadt Moers Park every Saturday morning at 9am continues to go from strength to strength.

Dave Preece, Event Director for Halewood junior parkrun, said: “Volunteering at junior parkrun is the highlight of my week. That feeling of doing something for the people in the local community can’t be beaten. The atmosphere is always positive and bright (even if the weather isn’t), and seeing the children put their best efforts in always puts a smile on my face!”
