Knowsley’s Cabinet has today approved updates to the borough’s Waste and Recycling Collection Policy.
This policy sets out how the council intends to reduce waste being sent to landfill or incineration by helping to achieve the Liverpool City Region recycling target of 65% for 2030. It also ensures that the council is still providing the most efficient and user-friendly waste and recycling collection service for households across Knowsley.
The changes to this policy include:
- The introduction of the new food waste recycling service. The 23 litre food caddy is collected on a weekly basis and will help to reduce the amount of household waste that residents produce.
- The introduction of more recyclable materials such as yoghurt pots and takeaway tubs, which residents can now place in their recycling bin to be reused rather than going to waste.
- Encouraging residents to recycle more and recycle right by utilising the right bins for the right materials, to ensure timely collections.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities & Neighbourhoods said: “This has been a huge year for waste and recycling services. Following legislation changes, local authorities have had to adapt and strengthen recycling services, and we have done just that.
“We are already running a very efficient service, and now households have access to food waste recycling and the ability to recycle even more items on their doorstep.
“This policy has been updated to demonstrate how we will provide all households with a timely waste and recycling collection service, and what residents can do to reduce their waste”
