Knowsley Council is shortlisted once again for national “Council of the Year”

by Lisa Bennett

The Municipal Journal has shortlisted Knowsley Council in the “Local Authority of the Year” category in their forthcoming national annual awards.  This is the second time in weeks that the Council has been nationally recognised as potentially the best Council in the UK by a trade publication.

In addition to the Municipal Journal, Knowsley Council is one of only five councils shortlisted by the Local Government Chronicle for “Council of the Year” in 2024.

Alongside this, the Local Government Chronicle has also shortlisted the Council for a partnership award in 2024 in recognition of work with the Shakespeare North Trust in delivering the Shakespeare North Playhouse.

These national awards aim to celebrate the finest examples of councils across the country.

Knowsley is one of only three Councils shortlisted by the Municipal Journal for its prestigious annual award.  The results will be announced on 21 June 2024.

Mike Harden, Chief Executive of Knowsley Council, said:

“It has been quite a remarkable few years for Knowsley – we have faced some truly huge challenges.  I am proud of the commitment of everybody who works here always to do the best we possibly can for local communities, and it is good to have our efforts recognised in this way at a time when things are particularly challenging.

Both the Local Government Chronicle and the Municipal Journal work with local authorities up and down the country.  Knowsley Council being recognised by them both as among the best in the UK is quite an achievement.

“I know that this news will be positively received by our workforce who continue to go above and beyond on a daily basis for the benefit of our residents and the entire community of Knowsley.”
