Knowsley Chamber of Commerce goes behind the scenes at Amazon

by Jonathan Kearney

The Amazon team in Knowsley recently welcomed the Knowsley Chamber of Commerce and local business owners to the fulfilment centre for a behind-the-scenes tour, following the site’s opening in September last year.

During their visit, Mayor Eddie Connor, members from Knowsley Chamber of Commerce, and local business owners were given a guided tour of the building in Knowsley Business Park by the fulfilment centre’s General Manager, Tony Carr. Guests met with some of the team working at the site and followed the journey of a parcel from when you click ‘buy’ on the Amazon website.

At the end of the tour, guests were treated to a lunch and a presentation from Amazon employees, outlining their plans for continuing to support the community in and around Knowsley this year. The Amazon team has donated over £44,500 to local organisations including Knowsley Foodbank, Zoe’s Place and Acorn Farm since opening in Knowsley in 2022.

Tony Carr, General Manager at Amazon in Knowsley, said: “It was great to welcome everyone to our fulfilment centre and the team really enjoyed meeting and interacting with our guests. I hope they enjoyed learning about how the Amazon team picks, packs and ships orders for customers across the UK.”

Alex James, an Amazon employee who helped with the tour, added: “We really enjoyed showing the Mayor, Knowsley Chamber of Commerce, and local business owners how things work here at Amazon and explaining our plans for helping the local community this year.”

Councillor Eddie Connor, Mayor of Knowsley, added: “I was delighted to visit Amazon’s fulfilment centre  and speak to the staff about the different roles they carry out at the site as well as the support Amazon gives to local charities and good causes.”

Amazon’s 630,000 sq ft fulfilment centre, which opened in September 2022, is the first of its kind in Merseyside, creating 700 jobs in a wide range of roles, including engineers, HR and IT professionals through to health & safety and finance specialists and operations managers as well as employees who perform a crucial role of picking, packing and shipping customer orders.
