Teams from across Knowsley Council are working hard in the lead up to Bonfire night to help keep our communities safe.
Working in conjunction with community safety partners including Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, social landlords and other agencies, Council teams are helping to prevent criminal damage and anti-social behaviour and ensure residents have a safe and enjoyable Bonfire period.
CCTV
Knowsley’s CCTV network of more than 1,150 cameras is monitored 24/7. The Council Control room has direct access to Merseyside Police’s Command and Control Room. This means that the police can be immediately notified of any incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour occurring and police patrols can be deployed accordingly.
Crime and Communities
Our Crime and Communities team work closely with the Council Control Room to provide intelligence to assist in tackling anti-social behaviour. In the build up to Bonfire night the team will also be conducting community walkabouts across the borough, working with community safety partners and Council colleagues – such as the Recycling Engagement team – to provide safety advice to residents and businesses.
Fly-tipping
Carrying out daily patrols, our Streetscene teams will be on hand to remove incidents of fly-tipping that could be used for anti-social fires. You can report fly tipping online here.

Sale of fireworks
Knowsley Council Licensing Officers will carry out inspections of business premises based on intelligence given by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. If the team receive specific intelligence with regards to, for example, the sale of fireworks to minors, this will lead to enforcement action being carried out. Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “We know that the vast majority of people enjoy the Halloween and Bonfire period in a safe and responsible way. Unfortunately the issue of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage persists around this time of the year, which can be particularly intimidating for older or more vulnerable residents. The safety of our residents is paramount, which is why teams from across the Council work tirelessly with community safety partners to help prevent anti-social behaviour and ensure action is taken against anyone who puts other people’s safety at risk.”
