Attend school every day

by Laura Johnston

Starting back after half term, Knowsley Council is reminding all pupils and parents of the importance of regular school attendance.

It’s important to maintain good school attendance from reception, all the way through a pupil’s education journey and particularly too from Year 7 onwards as they prepare for their important GCSEs.

The benefits of being in school are numerous, including:-

  • Learning to socialise and build lasting friendships
  • Discover hidden talents in a range of subjects, including drama, science, and sport
  • Uncover passions that lead to future careers
  • Gain confidence
  • Get support from trusted adults during tough times

Missing school means that children and young people are missing out on many learning opportunities. Lessons build on what children already know so by missing one lesson, makes tomorrow’s lesson more difficult.

Parents are also reminded that there is support available if they have concerns around their child’s attendance.  This can be accessed by speaking to the child’s teacher at the earliest opportunity. The school will then take steps to provide support and address any issues as early as possible.

Cllr David Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:

“School is an enriching environment that can not only support your child’s learning and development, it can also help your child with their social and mental wellbeing.

“Attending school regularly important for equipping your child with skills for life and attending school every day can help your child to achieve their aspirations, and the aspirations you have for them.”
