The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board was established last year as part of the Government’s Pride in Place programme.
It will oversee the £19.5m of Pride in Place funding over the next 10 years, supporting the community to shape a brighter future for the area.
Since it was established just over 12 months’ ago, the Board has consulted closely with the local community to understand what matters to them the most in order to identify the key priorities for investment.
This valuable community input has guided the development of the Kirkby Regeneration and Investment Plan which has been submitted to the Government.
Through the consultations, local residents highlighted three key themes to focus on over the next ten years:-
- A vibrant town centre: a welcoming destination with a diverse offer and high-quality facilities.
- Safe, stronger neighbourhoods: secure places and community spaces that sustain activity and strengthen local life.
- Empowering people to succeed: creating pathways and opportunities for those in need.
Once the Government has reviewed the plan, the first phase of funding is expected to be released next month.
In order to keep the local community updated on how the funding is supporting local priorities and how to get involved, a new Kirkby Neighbourhood Board website has been created – visit www.kirkbyneighbourhoodboard.co.uk.
Here, you’ll find an update on the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board and its members, a summary of the Regeneration and Investment Plan for Kirkby and the latest news from the Board – this will be regularly updated as the funding is released from the Government and work on the plan can progress.
Max Steinberg CBE DL, Chair of Kirkby Neighbourhood Board, said “It’s really important that the local community can find out more about the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board and the work being done for their local area.
“The priorities have been shaped by local people and the Board is really looking forward to working with local communities this year and the coming years to deliver the Regeneration and Investment Plan for Kirkby and address the priorities that are important to them.
“The newly-created website will help us to engage with the local community and share our latest news.”
