Knowsley Council’s Cabinet has endorsed the findings of a review of the Merseyside and Halton Joint Waste Local Plan, agreeing that the plan remains current, effective, and fit for purpose for the remainder of its period through to 2027.
The Joint Waste Local Plan, adopted in 2013 by Knowsley and its neighbouring councils across the Liverpool City Region, provides the policy framework for determining planning applications for new waste developments and allocating appropriate sites.
The plan is a core element of Knowsley’s Development Plan, and the continued use of its policies ensures local planning decisions regarding waste are supported by up-to-date and robust regional strategy. Halton, Sefton, St Helens, and Wirral Councils have already accepted the review’s positive findings.
Knowsley’s Cabinet agreed to note the findings and maintain the plan’s current status for decision-making purposes until the end of the current plan period in 2027.
