Work has begun on the latest shopfront improvements in Huyton Village Centre.
The former Post Office on Derby Road will benefit from a refurbishment of the existing shop frontage and the installation of new windows, creating new views on to Derby Road.
The property at 76 Derby Road, which has been vacant for over 10-years, is undergoing an internal reconfiguration and refurbishment to accommodate a new hospitality business.
The improvements are scheduled to take around 20 weeks to complete.
The former Post Office, opposite Poundstretcher, is the latest property in the Village Centre to benefit from the £1.75m Council investment.
The Shopfront and Gateway Improvement Programme is part of a multi-million-pound investment in the Village Centre which has seen 14 shop fronts undergoing a modern makeover including new windows, doors, signage and lighting.
The scheme has brought five long-term vacant properties back into use as well as helping attract new businesses into the Village Centre and establish a blossoming night-time economy.
Further phases of shop front improvements are planned on Derby Road over the coming months, with the properties from Halifax Building Society up to Heron Foods next to benefit from a contemporary makeover.
The ongoing shopfront improvements are part of the exciting 10-year development plans for Huyton Village Centre.
This will include:
- The delivery of a new mixed-use commercial district with opportunities for a hotel, office space, co-working centre, and residential accommodation.
- The creation of an attractive new Village Green which will connect improved public spaces, an improved station gateway area and high-quality event spaces on Derby Road.
- These investment opportunities will be supported by excellent transport access by road, bus, and rail, and will be a catalyst for further development in the Village Centre.
- The proposed development could bring up to 1,700 new jobs and a £50m annual investment boost to the local economy.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “The former Post Office on Derby Road is another key site in the Village Centre benefiting from Council investment. The scheme has already been successful in attracting new and diverse businesses to Huyton and we look forward to welcoming a new occupier for 76 Derby Road in the near future. I’m delighted with how our plans for the Village Centre are progressing and look forward to seeing a further phase of shop fronts transformed over the coming months.”
