Halewood-born judoka Dan Powell has claimed silver at the 2026 IBSA Judo European Championships in Heidelberg, Germany, adding another major international medal to his collection.
Competing in the -95kg J1 category, Dan reached the European Championships final for the second consecutive year, securing silver and narrowly missing out on retaining the European title he won in 2025.
The result provides another strong start to Dan’s campaign during the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic qualification period, which got underway in June.
Speaking after his performance, Dan said: “It hurts a bit, finishing with a silver medal, losing your last fight. But you can’t win them all, and I’m just really proud of the whole squad.”
Dan’s silver adds to an impressive list of international achievements, including his silver medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, as well as European Championships and World Championships gold in 2025.
He has represented Team GB at three Paralympic Games, including London 2012, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
Dan will now turn his attention to the IBSA Judo World Championships in Tbilisi next month.
