Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Cllr Christine Bannon, recently visited the George Howard Centre in Whiston to see the Family Chefs programme in action.
The Family Chefs programme is a 5-week healthy cooking and nutrition course for families and young children in Knowsley which encourage healthy eating habits.
The sessions are delivered at the George Howard Centre in Whiston and Northwood Family Hub in Kirkby over the summer, facilitated by Knowsley Council’s Early Years Service and the Healthy Futures Service (delivered by City Health Care Partnership).
The programme is designed for families to learn about and enjoy food ideas in a relaxed atmosphere, helping families to feel more confident as well as offering practical cooking skills support for healthier eating habits.
Cllr Christine Bannon, Cabinet Member for Health, said “I was delighted to visit the Family Chef programme in Whiston and speak with the children and their families taking part in this fantastic programme.
“It was lovely to see the excitement in everyone who was taking part, eager to learn more about cooking healthy meals and then having the opportunity to cook what they had learned.
“This is a great programme that supports our children to learn about healthy eating at an early age as well as bringing families together when planning and preparing meals.”
City Health Care Partnership provide Community Cooking Programmes throughout the year for children and their families through their Family Foodies offer, and Knowsley’s Early Years Service will continue to run their Mini Chefs course for young children aged 18 months to 4 years and their parents or carers.
