Teams from Knowsley Council and its partners will be out and about in the Whiston and Cronton ward on Wednesday 1 July 2026, tackling a range of environmental issues, from littering and graffiti to fly tipping and dog fouling.
It’s one of a series of Environmental Action Days being held across the borough, bringing partner agencies together to spend a day focusing on the most pressing issues in a specific location.
What’s happening on the day?
Activities on the day will include:
- clearing litter and fly tipping in hotspot areas
- removal of waste and abandoned bins
- cleansing and grounds maintenance inspections
- sewer baiting to control the rat population in the area – here’s some advice about controlling rats and keeping them away from homes, businesses and gardens
Council officers will carry out checks on retailers and do food hygiene inspections, as well as speaking to businesses and residents who are failing to manage their waste, taking enforcement action where appropriate.
In addition at the Environment Centre at Stadt Moers Park:-
- Environmental Health Officers will provide advice and answer any questions from 9am to 12.45pm
- A responsible dog ownership event, including free microchipping and free ‘scan and check’ for existing microchips to ensure contact details are up to date, will take place from 9.15am to 12.45pm
- Change Grow Live will be providing advice and support on drug and alcohol issues. They will also be carrying out blood pressure checks, oxygen saturation (SATS) monitoring, temperature checks and heart rate and respiratory rate assessments.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “This is just one of a number of regular action days where we will target specific locations and effectively tackle the issues impacting on our communities. By working with partners, we are making a real impact across the borough. As well as taking specific action to tackle environmental issues in a ward, we will also be encouraging behaviour change and providing opportunities for communities to participate in looking after where they live and work.”
