Knowsley Council’s commitment to protecting and enhancing green spaces has been reaffirmed following Cabinet’s endorsement of a recent review of the borough’s parks and open spaces.
Cabinet has backed recommendations put forward by the Climate Emergency Scrutiny Committee following its comprehensive Task and Finish Review into Knowsley’s parks and green spaces.
The Scrutiny Committee’s findings highlight the vital role that parks and green spaces play in community wellbeing, environmental resilience, and the long‑term delivery of high‑quality public services.
Cabinet accepted all of the nine recommendations made following the review – these included improved safety and lighting measures, sustainable funding approaches, enhanced sports provision, and new opportunities for community and educational partnerships.
The review highlighted the work of Berkley Juniors FC at the Sylvia Gore Pavilion as an excellent example of partnership working.
Cabinet’s decision will also ensure that progress on implementing the agreed actions is closely monitored. An update will be provided to the Communities and Neighbourhoods Cabinet Member after six months, with a further review after twelve months to assess the impact of the work undertaken.
