Tuesday 22 September is World Car Free Day, a day that encourages motorists to give up their cars for a day and think about how they can use more sustainable transport for everyday journeys.
The day was brought to life by the World Car Free Network, a charity who aim to show the world what it would be like to be traffic-free for just one day.
World Car Free Day supports Knowsley’s commitment to improving air quality and creating healthier communities. Road transport is a significant source of air pollution, and choosing to walk, cycle, use public transport, or share journeys can help reduce emissions, improve air quality, and support better health and wellbeing for residents.
By making small changes to how we travel, even for a single day, we can all play a part in creating cleaner, greener neighbourhoods across Knowsley.
How to get involved:
Choose Active Travel: Walk, run, scoot, or ride a bike to school, work or to the shops.
Use Public Transport: Hop on a bus or train for all of part of your journey.
Choosing active travel for even one day can have a positive impact on both personal health and the environment. Walking and cycling can help improve physical and mental wellbeing, while fewer vehicles on the road can reduce air pollution and create safer, more pleasant public spaces.
