Work has commenced this week on sporting improvements at Jubilee Park in Huyton.
The £1m scheme includes the creation of a state-of-the-art, all-weather 3G football pitch, hardstanding viewing areas for spectators, flood lighting to ensure the facilities can be enjoyed all year round and associated parking for Huyton Juniors FC.
The pavilion, which was refurbished last year, is now open as part of the new Jubilee Sports Hub which will be operated under a lease by Huyton Juniors Football Club as the Huyton Jubilee Community Sports Hub CIC. The pavilion will remain open throughout the works.
Some parts of the park will be cordoned off to allow the works to take place safely. This will include the former bowling green area, which will be infilled with topsoil removed for the new pitch and re-levelled to better align with the wider park landscape.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said:
“I’m delighted to see work on site commencing this week.
“This is such a well-used community asset enjoyed by children, young people and their families and it really deserves benefitting from upgraded facilities.”
Stephen Smith, Chairman of Huyton Juniors FC added:
“I’m really looking forward to seeing work commencing to deliver these enhanced facilities.
“Huyton Juniors has always been passionate about engaging as many local youngsters as possible to enjoy sport. To have first class facilities like this, that are ran by the community for the community, will help kids across Page Moss and Huyton have better access to football and sport and also support the wider park.”
This latest work is funded largely by a grant from the Football Foundation, developer contributions and an additional a contribution from Knowsley Council.
Work is due to be completed by October 2026.
