WHISTON MAN JAILED FOR MORE THAN TWO AND A HALF YEARS FOR ASSAULTING A WOMAN

by Guy Murphy

A man has been jailed after assaulting a woman in Prescot.

Thomas Dean, 36, of Lancaster Avenue, in Whiston, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday 14 May, after pleading guilty to section 18 wounding with intent and assault by beating.

Dean was sentenced to 32 months for assaulting the woman on 7 November 2024 outside a shop in Prescot. He has also been given an indefinite restraining order preventing him contacting or communicating with the victim.

Detective Inspector Steve O’Neill said: “This was a violent and sustained attack on the victim with her young children, who was left very distressed and with head injuries that needed hospital attention.  Traumatic CCTV captured the attack that was vital in securing the conviction.

“I would like to highlight the bravery of the victim in supporting this prosecution as initially Dean pleaded not guilty. The fact that Dean is now serving a prison sentence and unable to harm her will hopefully aid the process of recovery. We recognise the profound impact that such serious crime has, and hopefully she will in time move forward to a brighter future.

“Dean’s guilty plea was a belated acceptance of his actions, and also demonstrates the excellent prosecution case built against him. It also highlights our dedication to bringing perpetrators of domestic violence to justice and supporting victims.

“I would like to emphasise that there is help available to anyone who may be suffering domestic abuse of any kind and together with partner agencies, we will do all that we can to support you.

“Domestic abuse can happen to anyone and we have specially trained officers who will listen to you and support you with sensitivity and compassion. Likewise, I would ask everyone to look out for your family members, friends or neighbours that may be suffering, as by contacting us you could be helping someone who is too afraid to help themselves. Everything you tell us is taken extremely seriously and will be investigated thoroughly.”
