It’s national Walk to School Week Monday 18 – Friday 22 May 2026.
The five-day walking challenge is organised by Living Streets, a UK charity for everyday walking, whose mission to achieve a better walking environment and inspire people to walk more.
This year’s theme will see pupils set off on a special operation – codename Mission Move. Pupils will be encouraged to walk, wheel, cycle, scoot or Park and Stride to school every day of the week. During the week, pupils will meet fun and friendly secret agents as they explore the many benefits of walking or wheeling to school
Get involved
Many Knowsley schools are taking part in this year’s Walk to School Week and will use Walk to School diaries to track their progress each day.
In addition, all Knowsley schools are offered the opportunity to develop a travel plan using the free Modeshift Education Stars programme. Travel plans aim to increase active travel on the journey to and from school and reduce the use of cars all year round.
Schools can find out more about Modeshift, as well as the benefits of walking and cycling to school, by contacting RoadSafety@knowsley.gov.uk.
You can also find out more about Walk to School Week 2026 on the Living Streets website.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development said:
“Walk to School Week is a great opportunity for families to leave the car at home and to walk, wheel, cycle, scoot or ‘Park and Stride’ to school.
“This small change can make a big difference – fewer cars at the school gates, less pollution in our local areas and it’s a great way to exercise and get moving for children and adults.
“We’re encouraging as many schools and families as possible to take part.”
Well done to everyone who has walked, scooted, or cycles to school this week! Thanks to St. Margaret Marys Infant School for sharing some photos.
