In a bid to tackle fly-tipping, residents have been reminded that vans can now visit the Household Waste and Recycling Centres in Huyton and Kirkby to dispose of waste.
Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority, which operates the recycling centres, allows a limited number of vans and large trailers onto the sites at Wilson Road, Huyton and Depot Road, Kirkby each day. Visits need to be booked and anyone turning up without a booking will be turned away.
Once the total number of permitted vans or large trailers per day has been reached for a site, then no more bookings for that day will be taken and residents will need to book on another day.
There is no need to book a specific time slot and, once the date of a booking has been confirmed, the vehicle registration details will be provided to site attendants and residents can turn up at any time on their allotted day. Residents are allowed to book one appointment per week up to a maximum of 12 per year.
If there are queues at the sites, residents with a van allocation booking will need to join the queue.
Only household waste is allowed and you may be refused access if it is suspected that the waste you are bringing is from trade activity. Those with a hire vehicle may be asked to present the hire documents.
Bookings can be made by visiting the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority website.
Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods Cllr Shelley Powell said: “Many residents aren’t aware that there’s now an opportunity for vans to dispose of waste at the MRWA’s recycling centres in Huyton and Kirkby. As a result we’ve seen that some people are resorting to fly tipping their waste, which is a major blight on our communities.
“It’s really easy to arrange a visit to one of the recycling centres in Huyton and Kirkby. Although all visits need to be pre-booked, you can turn up at any time on the day of your booking.”
In addition to Huyton and Kirkby, van bookings can also be made at the Household Waste and Recycling Centres at: Bidston, Clatterbridge, Formby, Newton le Willows, Old Swan, Otterspool, Ravenhead, Sefton Meadows, South Sefton, Southport, West Kirby.
