Update on works at Tarbock Island – December 2024

by Emily Maguire

On Monday 13 January work will commence on the widening to the M62 J6 eastbound entry slip road (leaving Tarbock Island in the direction of Manchester) and this work is expected to be completed by the end of March 2025. During this work the existing one lane entry to the slip road will be maintained from Tarbock Island.

The slip road will be completely closed to traffic overnight from 8pm to 5am from 7 – 12 January 2025.  The existing lane closure on Windy Arbor Road (southbound) at the entry to Tarbock Island will remain in place until approximately the end of March

Work will also begin on Monday 27 January to widen the M62 Junction 6 westbound exit slip road (coming on to Tarbock Island from the direction of Manchester). This slip road will be closed 24 hours a day 7 days a week during this phase, which is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2025. A diversion will be in place during the closure, taking  traffic down to M62 Junction 5 before returning eastbound to Junction 6.

During these works there will also be a one lane closure on the M57 exit slip road which will be put in place overnight on Sunday 12 January.

All possible steps are being taken to minimise ongoing disruption there will be some unavoidable delays to journeys.  Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, or choose alternative routes where possible.

Further details of these closures, including associated diversions will be shared on @knowsley_roads in the coming weeks.

This work is part of a major investment programme to improve the flow of traffic and journey times at this busy junction. The work will create additional capacity by increasing the number of lanes on the approaches to the roundabout, as well as widening the roundabout itself.

This improvement work is being funded through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

We will continue to provide regular updates about the works as each new phase of the scheme commences. You can also keep up-to-date with the latest information by following @knowsley_roads on X
