Update on the development of Knowsley’s Economic Growth Plan

by Jonathan Kearney

The Council’s Inclusive Growth and Skills Scrutiny Committee has received an update on the development of the Knowsley Economic Growth Plan.

The Economic Growth Plan sets out a collective economic vision and ambition for Knowsley and how all public private, community and voluntary partners can support that vision.

Ultimately, the plan will help to improve the economic outcomes for everyone who lives, works, visits or invests in Knowsley.

The previous Knowsley Economic Growth Plan 2016 to 2021 had exceeded many targets, with more than 6,000 new homes built, 10,000 additional jobs created and over 1.3 million sq ft of floorspace developed.

There has also been significant progress in redeveloping the Borough’s town centres, alongside a new cultural offer, driven by the opening of the Shakespeare North Playhouse which has also created new opportunities in retail and the night-time economy.

In order to further build on these achievements, a consultation is currently ongoing to help to inform the Economic Growth Plan 2024 to 2030. The consultation closes on Monday 19 March 2024.

The new Economic Growth Plan will ensure that Knowsley is a place:-

  • With a thriving, inclusive economy with opportunities for people and business;
  • Where people of all ages are confident and can achieve their full potential; and,
  • Has welcoming, vibrant, well-connected neighbourhoods and town centres.

Running alongside the consultation, the Council is analysing local economic data as well as identifying the borough’s strengths and areas for improvement.

There’s still time for you to have your say and help to shape the Knowsley Economic Growth Plan for 2024-2030.
