Update on COVID-19 boosters

by Guy Murphy

On Monday 29 November, the Government announced a major expansion of the COVID-19 booster programme, as part of efforts to help slow the spread of the new Omicron coronavirus variant and reduce winter illness.

Booster vaccines are soon to be offered to all over-18s in the UK, and children aged 12 to 15 will also be invited for a second dose.

Knowsley CCG is expecting NHS England to confirm more details about this shortly, including the timescales for boosters for those aged 18-39.

In the meantime, Knowsley CCG has asked that people do not contact their GP surgery or other parts of the NHS to ask about these boosters, but help keep telephone lines open and staff free to deal with patients who need help and advice for other urgent health needs.

The NHS will let you know when it’s your turn to have a booster dose, and how it can be accessed – either by letter, text or phone call. You don’t need to get in touch before this.
