September update from the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board

by Emily Maguire

The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board met on Friday 12 September 2025 – a Board established under the Government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods Programme and chaired by Max Steinberg CBE DL.

As part of the programme, Kirkby has been allocated £19.5m to invest in Kirkby over the next 10 years.

Already, the community has been asked to identify their priority issues for Kirkby through a “Let’s talk about Kirkby” consultation which ran over the summer last year. This highlighted key themes which included:-

  • Retail, leisure and an evening economy
  • Education, employment and skills and opportunities for young people
  • Green spaces and how they are used for the wellbeing of residents
  • Clean and safe streets, including well-maintained roads
  • Regular updates to be shared by the Board

The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board is using this feedback to develop a Regeneration Plan for Kirkby which needs to be submitted to the Government by 28 November 2025 in order to secure the funding.

Through the Regeneration Plan, the Board aims to deliver a vibrant town centre, safe and stronger neighbourhoods and empowering people to succeed.

In the coming weeks the local community will once again be asked to share their views on the draft plan – further details will be shared shortly on how you can share your views both in person and online.

Max Steinberg CBE DL, Chair of the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board, said: “We had another incredibly positive meeting today where all Board members are committed to delivering the very best outcomes for everyone who lives, works, visits or invests in Kirkby.

“We have used feedback from the “Let’s talk about Kirkby” consultation as the basis for the Kirkby Regeneration Plan that we will be submitting to Government.  We are committed to delivering the community’s identified priorities.

“Following today’s meeting, we are making some further enhancements to our  Regeneration Plan and we all look forward to sharing the proposals with the local community to review and share their views.

“We are very clear that this is their plan for their town. Please do take the time to review it and get involved in Kirkby’s future development.”
