Unauthorised Play Area in Kirkby

by Lisa Bennett

Knowsley Council is aware of an unauthorised play area that has been installed on Council-owned land on Winmoss Drive in Towerhill, Kirkby.

The equipment or the play area has not been commissioned by Knowsley Council and it is not a designated Council play area – which would be subject to rigorous inspection and regular maintenance.

Knowsley Council has concerns over the safety of the equipment and whether appropriate guidelines and legislation have been followed regarding its installation.

Whilst the efforts and generosity of those who have provided this equipment is appreciated, the Council needs to ensure that such equipment can be used safely, without the risk of harm or serious injury.

Due to these concerns, the Council is urging people to be aware of the potential health and safety issues and to avoid using the equipment until appropriate checks have taken place.

The Council is also urging those who have installed the equipment to contact the Council as soon as possible around the equipment specification and installation by emailing ess.enquiries@knowsley.gov.uk

Please note – Following a consultation completed in November last year, plans are progressing to deliver a new play area at Tower Hill Park over the summer, which have been informed by feedback from the local community.
