Town centre events continue in Kirkby

by Gemma Melling

With the darker nights just around the corner and the colder weather on the way, it’s definitely not all doom and gloom in Kirkby as more town centre events have been announced for 2026.

Thousands of visitors flocked to Kirkby town centre over the summer months to enjoy a range of events supported by businesses and boosted by a £60,000 investment by the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board. From football themed fun to circus performers, superheroes and more, the summer events have helped to increase footfall and driven an extra 17,000 visits to the town centre during the summer period.

And now residents and visitors can also look forward to more events, workshops and attractions running through until the end of the year thanks to the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board’s investment. This will include:

  • Halloween House – 26-31 October 2026
  • Remembrance Day Workshop – 7 November 2026
  • Christmas Festive Fun Day – 5 December 2026

This will enhance the usual events programme in the town centre and also support the annual Christmas Lights Switch On and enable dedicated sessions for children with Special Educational Needs in Kirkby’s Santa’s Grotto. Details will be confirmed nearer the time.

Max Steinberg CBE DL, Chair of the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board said: “It’s great to see the positive impact that the summer events have had in the town centre. Some of the comments from visitors and businesses have been fantastic and I am really pleased that the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board has been able to boost the programme.

“It will be great to see what comes next and to see even more people enjoying the free activities. Keep an eye out for details and dates and make sure you pop along to enjoy them for yourself!”

More details of each event will be released nearer the time.

The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board is overseeing an investment of £19.5 million in Kirkby over the next 10 years thanks to the Government’s Pride in Place funding. You can find out more on the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board website.
