The Works opens in Kirkby

by Lisa Bennett

The Works has officially opened its doors in Kirkby town centre today (27 August 2026).

Located in the heart of the town centre at 22 St Chad’s Parade, The Works provides shoppers with even greater choice and further strengthens the town centre’s retail offer.

The Works, one of the UK’s leading value retailers, offers an extensive range of affordable books, arts and crafts, toys, games, stationery and family gifts. The new Kirkby store will become part of The Works’ nationwide portfolio of more than 500 stores, bringing a popular and well-established retail brand to the town centre and providing local shoppers with even greater choice.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said:

“I’m delighted to welcome The Works to Kirkby town centre. We know from our consultations with local residents that they wanted a diverse offer in the town, and The Works will be a welcome new addition.

“As well as The Works, we’ve seen a number of new businesses opening in Kirkby this week including Casa Roni – a new Mediterranean restaurant, Knowsley Family and Community Education offering adult training and development opportunities and next week, we’ll also see the official opening of Bloom Childcare next week.

“It really is an exciting time for Kirkby and I’m delighted to see The Works in the town centre.”
